Job Summary
The Medical Assistant Level II advances clinic operations through expanded clinical responsibilities, patient education, and workflow coordination. This role performs advanced procedures, supports care coordination, and mentors junior staff to enhance patient outcomes and clinic efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Advanced Clinical Duties:
- Perform venipuncture, EKGs, wound care, and specialty procedures
- Administer vaccinations and medications per provider orders
- Conduct CLIA-waived point-of-care testing and specimen processing
- Complete health screenings (depression, fall risk, social determinants)
- Provide comprehensive patient education on treatment plans and medications
Care Coordination:
- Manage patient communications through EHR messaging systems
- Coordinate referrals, prior authorizations, and follow-up care
- Conduct patient outreach calls and appointment reminders
- Support quality improvement and compliance initiatives
Leadership & Training:
- Mentor and train Level I Medical Assistants and new staff
- Assist with competency validation and skills development
- Support workflow optimization and schedule management
Administrative Excellence:
- Maintain all Level I responsibilities with increased autonomy
- Ensure accurate documentation and coding support
- Manage inventory, equipment maintenance, and quality logs
- Answer phones, schedule appointments, and manage patient flow
- Perform patient registration, verify insurance, and collect copayments
- Maintain accurate medical records and update EHR systems
- Handle correspondence, filing, and general office duties
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of accredited Medical Assistant program
- RMA or CMA (AAMA) certification required
- Current BLS/CPR certification
- 2-5+ years of medical assisting experience
- Advanced EHR proficiency and clinical documentation skills
- Excellent prioritization and independent workflow management
- Bilingual (Spanish/English)
- Specialty clinic experience
- Demonstrated expertise in venipuncture, EKGs, and CLIA-waived testing
- Patient education and care coordination experience
- Leadership or mentoring experience
- Ability to stand/walk for extended periods
- Lift up to 25 pounds
- Work with PPE in clinical environment
